Smart bicycle parking for Museum Night: guiding behavior with simple design

During Museum Night Amsterdam, over 30,000 people explored the city by bike, visiting 73 museums in just a few hours. That kind of crowd? It can easily turn into bicycle parking chaos. But not this year.

Bikenine was brought in to redesign the bicycle parking experience. Our goal: make it easy, clear, and stress-free for everyone. At busy museum entrances—often tight on space—we used white duct tape to create visible parking zones. A simple solution, yes. But also a powerful one. By using clear wayfinding and nudging behavior with smart layout design, we turned messy clusters into straight lines. Visitors parked their bikes neatly without needing signs or staff. Suddenly, there was room for everyone—cyclists, pedestrians, and residents.

This is what we do: create low-effort, high-impact solutions that make cycling in cities easier and safer. Because we believe everyone should be able to get to their destination by bike—without stress, and without blocking the sidewalk.

Bicycle parking doesn't have to be complicated. It just has to work.
