We would hereby like to present to you…. Karlijn!
Let’s be honest: Karlijn is not the one to go biking for fun. She’s not that person that bikes several days in a row and calls it a holiday nor is she the one for cycle racing as a sport. She is however that person that takes her bike everywhere she goes, simply because infrastructure and parking opportunities for cyclists in The Netherlands are great (and going by car in a densely built area always takes more time). Name the activity and Karlijn gets there by bike; first mile, last mile.. any mile. In the past years Karlijn has been advising governments, municipalities and more commercial parties on how to incorporate the bike into their multimodality plans. She really takes into consideration the type of user that’s being dealt with in the specific situation: are we talking parents with big bikes or are we talking travelers who are in a hurry? As an urban planner, Karlijn likes to incorporate people’s urban planner, Karlijn likes to incorporate people’s patterns and requirements into the bike solution that’s being offered. At the end: we are designing a city for people with different needs, which can almost always be met by bike! |
