Donald Nagel
Donald, he is just another ordinary Dutch guy. On his bike to the station to commute to the office, to the schoolyard of his children, or to get some groceries from the supermarket. It’s just a typical Dutch lifestyle.
And on that lifestyle, Donald created the “Flink Fietsen” program for the municipality of Leiden. To promote cycling significantly. "Flink" is best describe as “tough or bold”. Despite the rain or wind, cold weather and snow, or just another spring day, you just ride your bike instead of your car. It builds character, gets you tough and fit. And it’s fun. |
This 'Flink Fietsen' initiative not only benefits health and the environment but also contributes to improving the city's accessibility by reducing car usage. "And cycling is cool too," says Councilor Strijk of Accessibility. The municipality, in collaboration with the region, is actively enhancing various cycling facilities. Leiden will see an addition of approximately 20,000 bike parking spaces in the coming years, free bike parking in the center, temporary parking at Leiden Central Station, and more bike connections. The city is also introducing more express cycling routes for the use of E-bikes and speed pedelecs. So it’ll take you within 35 minutes from Leiden Central to The Hague city centre.
