Bicycle parking strategy for a more accessible Deventer
Deventer is working to make its city centre more attractive—not just by bringing in more visitors, but by encouraging them to stay longer. That means better access for all transport modes, including bicycles.
To support this, Bikenine helped the municipality develop a strategic approach to bicycle parking. The goal: improve bicycle accessibility and make cycling the obvious, convenient choice. According to the STOMP principle (Stappen – Trappen – OV – Mobiliteit – Privéauto), cycling should be prioritized above cars. But that only works when routes lead to well-placed, easy-to-use parking near the city’s main destinations.
We contributed to a city-wide bicycle parking strategy that focuses on smart location choices, user behavior, and a better cycling experience overall. And we didn’t stop there: our work also included plans for monitoring actual parking use and evaluating whether additional measures will be needed in the future.
In Deventer, mobility and accessibility go hand in hand. And smart bicycle parking is the link that connects them.
